The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC has pledged to retool its channels of engagement with communities to help prepare the younger generation in the country for leadership roles. The pledge is part of the corporation’s efforts to impact Nigerians more positively in keeping with its payoff line.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu made the comment during the grand finale of the 2016 NNPC Annual National Quiz Competition that held at the NNPC Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

Kachikwu through NNPC’s Group Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer, Corporate Services, Isa Inuwa said he was proud of the National Quiz Competition project, saying that it has lived up to the objective of generating interest in science and technology among Nigerian youths. He added that the Corporation would continue to support the National Quiz Competition and other community-based efforts aimed at promoting education and youth development.

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, commended the management of NNPC for initiating and supporting the science quiz competition for the past 15 years, he added that the poor economic conditions prevalent  in sub-Sahara African countries were as a result of poor application of science.

Students from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja clinched the first prize with 135 points in the grand finale of the Quiz. Akwa Ibom came second with 125 points, and scores for the other states like were: Lagos, 110. Jigawa 100, Abia 90 and Yobe 70.
